Deep Shaft Mining.
At some point you are bound to run out of available ore. So maybe having a building that fulfils the purpose of digging deep, for that precious ore would be cool I think.
You would of course have to supply it with Oxygen for breathing, Wood/Iron/Steel/Concrete for the supports, and other more esoteric things like different chemicals for the purification of the raw ore.

BoulderchampThats sounds kinda complex to do. An open pit mining like it is done a lot in germany would make more sense with very big bucket wheel excavator, which can than have some conveyor belt to move resources in and out.

JadesI really like this idea! Ship transport is nice, but it's too slow for my factories. Also, I haven't found any ore for ships yet. With enough research, there should be endless mines that you can also assign vehicles to. Of course also with power supply and for example TNT for blasting.

MarkI would love underground mining. A sort of 'ghosting' of the underground workings similar to Cities Skylines does whenn doing train/subway tunnels. I have worked in the underground mining industry for 10+ years and have been looking for a game with realistic mining mechanics. Also ability to assign excavators to mining areas so you can have one do stripping of dirt and rock and another going after ore, this would reduce the ups and downs of ore flow.

DeclanThe ability to do exploratory drilling followed by a deep shaft mine would be amazing. Maybe if we could put a mine building on top of the area and the designate the outer boundaries to be mined. Could possibly have a maintenance effect if mining underneath placed buildings, or if that's OP then just prevent designating in areas underneath buildings. Could consume concrete/iron/steel/power/etc as an operational resources.

Cazthis is something i thought about, so something akin to, you reach the absolute bottom of an ore field (where btw orefields should be WAY deeper), you find a deep ore crack, with millions to unlimited amount of ore (game set up option)
you can place a specific drill ontop, or mulitple, like an oil field, that drill has multiple tiers, and it spews out that ore, that needs to be removed by your diggers (to keep diggers around for longer)
like a cracking system, it could need pressurized fluids.
or maybe in the future we might get additional island to actually build on, not just the outposts on the world map, and these are just temporary mining ops, being connected by cargo ships, or some sort of futuristic train system. maybe the planned space programm leads to space mining.
