The world map has many locations, what if instead of just visiting them, we could actually build on them?
For the oil and water locations, instead of generating stuff automatically, they start out with a few oil/water wells and we have to bring stuff there to build more to increase production. The oil rig of course would look like an oil rig, not an actual island. The resources at these places would be unlimited, but the oil rig would ONLY have oil available and the water island would ONLY have water. We have to manually bring everything else for constructing and expanding. Housing and farms could be required as well to employ the buildings at the location. Water could be handled via desalination an the oil island.

zytukinFor town islands, similar thing but no resources at all. Just some existing houses and we can build more to i crease reproduction and max population. We can load people on the ship and transfer them to other locations. As with the above, we would need to set up farms to keep the residents alive. These islands would have a permanent free growth boost so the population steadily increases like it currently does, but it would be percentage based so the higher the population you maintain the faster it grows.
The islands that we visit with nothing could be random worlds like our current starting world where there is a variety of resources and can be used for anything. This could be made more useful by varying the ore on each, more of some, less/none of others. Could than take some higher tier resources like gold off the starting island to encourage players expanding to other islands. -

zytukinAll this would require some other changes:
Alternative power sources would be needed. Larger power generation from fuel instead of just having the tiny diesel generator, such as boilers that can use diesel, oil, or distillates. Solar or wind power could be added. Tidal power plants could be added to build on coasts. The water island could have rivers to utilize water wheels for power.
We would need to be able to manually load things on the ship to deliver other places.
Cargo ports would need to be changed so players could set them to either provide or demand stuff. Than when built on each island cargo ships could automatically run stuff between the islands as needed
An electric desalination plant or one that burns oil/diesel/distillates would be better than the current one that needs coal.
Unity is an iffy thing. Undecided on saying no unity applies to these alternate islands, completely separate unity, or a global unity pool.
