Make the captain able to tweak the buildings' in/ot ports
To provide another level of customization, the player should be able to fully customize where on a building are the in and out ports. On the 3 axes, meaning you could change the side and place of a port on the grid, but also bring them up or down, like on the slag crusher for example.
Of course, each new variation f a building would need research, or maybe ressources sent to a specialized "industrial building engineering" building that would need a tech to be researched first.
Then, each time the player builds a variation of a standard building, the building cost might be a bit higher, or not...
That would allow for much deeper optimization of factories complex.
That would cause a problem with the "blueprint" feature, since a specific blueprint might need a tweaked factory, wich would need to be included somehow in the blueprint and then be researched by the player importing the blueprint.

MattWhile this would be cool, I think where the in/out ports are are based on what the model of the building looks like. I don't see how this is possible without some kind of super complex model system with variants based on where you set the ports unless it just ends up looking wrong.
