Town Heating
Supply your settlement with steam heating as an additional requirement to power and water services. Demand can fluctuate with the seasons. Steam low can be just as/more efficient than high steam to encourage integration with your power plant's exhaust stream over just plopping a boiler down. Can cause hypothermia disease if it runs out. Can also supply wood/coal/gas directly as a more inefficient and polluting heat source

NomiosGood idea. I submitted the merged idea 'Seasons' in which I approached this idea a little broader. Having (a difficulty setting for) fluctuating seasons would challenge you to deal with peaks and dips in demand. There are all kinds of creative ways to implement this. For example, a wet and a dry season, forcing you to consider storing enough water during the wet season. Or, a frozen and open ocean, limiting ships to dock at your island in the winter, again forcing you to consider storing certain resources. Currently, most of the game's resource flows are pretty stable once you get things going. (Which is already pretty challenging to manage, by the way.) For more advanced players, it could pose a interesting new dynamic to deal with temporarily hampered and excess resource flows.
