Comparative Advantage (Improved Trading)

Just like in our world some countries are better at producing a good than another country. Whether it is because of access to a resource, country's stability, or education.
In the current version of the game, you are required to make everything on the island, which is not realistic in the real world. Currently, you trade when you just need an one off. I would love the idea of Comparative Advantage where your island can really specialize in making a certain good (Microchip or Food or Raw Resource), and you can sell/trade with that good for another good.
For example,
If you have a play style that is more geared to producing Food Items. Then you could trade food for Microchips. And Visa-Versa.
I believe this would add realism, accommodate different play styles/choices, and eliminate the fatigue of feeling that you have to produce everything in the game.

Justin BestemanSame concept of cargo ships for mines/rigs, but instead it would load Food and ship it to another island and come back with Microchips.
For example
so you have trade routes and can make those between other island/settlements -

MoffmasterCould even add to replayability if you have an event in mid-game where you 'discover' a random comparative advantage (or maybe 2-3). So each playthrough, you are incentiviced to try to maximize a different industry.
