IRL Merchant Mariner's opinion & suggestions #2
With the introduction of trains which are utilized heavily in America there it's actually inefficent to transfer in bulk. Which is why my sector of the industry is a thing!
Inland marine transportation.
1. Tugboats/Barges should be implemented to transfer by water a short ways to other areas of the game map. Typically a single boat/barge combo takes roughly Five crewmen. A single barge can carry upwards of 30,000 barrels.
This would in turn make it possible to transfer in bulk, and open up map design for small chasms to utilize oil refining & reduce land based workload.
if Medium Cargo can transfer 440 X 4, a single barge should in turn transfer 440 X 1.
These barges can also be fitted with Items,Loose, and Liquid!

AnnoyingOldManThis feature would go very well with Phunt's "Add excavator as barge" suggestion. Cutting canals and using barges would be an entirely new logistic option and might make for some really interesting choices when designing at a macro level.
Of course, this would also make us want to bridge the canals for both vehicles and trains.
