Partial Blueprints

A blueprint should still be usable, even if all of the components have been researched. If I have a blueprint of a build but I don't have Storage 2, Belts, pipes 2 or whatever, then I should still be able to place the items I DO have available. This way, I will have all of the other parts lined up and properly spaced so I can fill in the rest as the tech becomes available.

The example you gave is bad, because tiered items auto-downgrade. What we would want is that if something is not available at all it is downgraded to nothing (or, preferably, an unpausable ghost building — which would also have the added benefit of preventing blueprinted connectors from reverting).

Do you mean 'Not' been researched?
I do agree that if you have not researched something, a special ghost should be placed that can Not be enabled until researched.
I believe this is how Factorio does it now, which is a really nice feature.

I would also like to have in settings the ability to disable the automatic downgrading.
