Buried intrigues
Awesome game, had an idea that might be a little off from the current realistic setting, but would be awesome with the terrain and mining systems.
Uncovering large buried *somethings*. My initial idea would be a crashed alien spacecraft or equivalent. I like the idea of uncovering more and more of this huge buried object, and accessing different compartments or facilities on the surface of the object which provide a benefit to the colony the more they can uncover and keep operational. It would provide a reason to have a large static digsite, with outposts/bases across it providing different chemical or technological benefits.
Like I said, perhaps it's too different from the grounded setting, but I do think it would be cool as hell. Maybe I just like the idea of huge digsites in the same way I do huge mineshafts, but the digsites would be permanent fixtures and goals, rather than means to an end that will eventually run dry and need filling in.

YandersenActually, that can be quite possible to make (but extremely hard) via the map creator app. If i recall correctly, the resources can be made invisible for the detector ingame, so the foreign object can be drawn under the depth using the resource deposit of specific shape.
