Designated Zones of Operation for trucks (Transport Control Tower?)
Allow the creation of zones that trucks can be assigned to. Assigned trucks can only take jobs where the source or destination is inside the zone. Allow player to specify options such as if both source & destination must be inside the zone, or if all sources/destinations inside the zone will Accept Assigned Only (existing logic that can be reused?)
This is basically Advanced Logistics that allow assigning trucks to groups of storages instead of specific ones, which is more practical because single storages very rarely have enough throughput to having 1 dedicate truck. There is also the inefficinecy of the 50% gauranteed downtime from the fact that a truck assigned to a single storage is gauranteed to spend half its time driving empty back to/from that storages, which will be reduced if it serviced multiple storages.

FireflyThere is also the subtle but sometimes very consequential problem that trucks congregating at far-away destinations (such as dump zones) will reduce fuel efficency in busy areas:

Many trucks sitting idle at the edge of the map
= fewer trucks in busy areas (unless they become busy enough to summon back the far-away trucks)
= jobs are less likely to find trucks close to them they can summon so they must summon trucks from further away
= trucks spend more distance driving between jobs
= trucks consume more fuel.
It's a really weird effect whose impact is hard to measure but it could potentially have a large impact under some circumstances which might introduce unintended difficulty for the player that they currently have no means to resolve (besides increasing fuel production).
Strategic use of the proposed feature can completely counter this, which removes the undeserved difficulty in those specific circumstances, and adds another layer of depth to the game. -

FireflyOh and also this: It would also be massively impactful if there was a way to track how much % of distance travelled by trucks inside a designated zone is with an empty trunk. This would allow further optimization of zone choice, which adds even more depth to the game.
