DylanI agree with this but think it needs some tweaks. I wouldn't worry about the rare earth minerals, but it could be done that the drilling is used as a set up for long term, low crank, almost infinite generation of the minerals already in game. Build the drill rigs, send them out, feed them rods to get them down to depth, and once they hit something you set up some sort of modular mining platform that can be built upon and expanded over time to bring it up to a steady pace of ore extraction to replace the depleting mines on the island and work hand in hand with world mines.
