Train Station Storage Platforms

Since rail stations now share across platform segments, what if there were storage segments that could increase internal storage of a given ware, without having the load/unload mechanisms? Might be useful for stations in cramped areas where putting in a separate storage building might not be feasible without a large amount of disruption.
Could maybe also have import/export ports -- might be useful for consolidating belts at one end of the platform rather than spread out along the length.
